As the Seasons Change, So Do We

There’s something about this time of year that feels like a quiet awakening.
The light lingers a little longer. The air softens. Blossoms begin to appear where there was once bare branches. Birds are louder. Mornings feel gentler.
Nature begins to re-emerge.
And so do we.

As Lia Leendertz writes in The Almanac
“The first migrants arrive in the woodlands this month: listen for the chiffchaff, named after its distinctive call, willow warblers and blackcaps joining the dawn chorus… Hibernating creatures will put their snouts above ground, with hedgehogs emerging hungry for their first meal of beetles, earwigs and caterpillars… The first butterflies are on the wing… Bumblebees are waking… In some woodlands, native daffodils, or ‘lent lilies’, bloom in sunny, blustery clumps… Spring has arrived.”
There is movement everywhere. A quiet returning…A soft unfolding…
And without really noticing it, we begin to follow…drawn outward, and gently back to each other.
The Pull to Gather
Winter invites us inward. Into our homes. Into ourselves. Into quieter routines. And often, into our screens. But spring invites something different.
A turning outward. A rejoining.
We begin to crave shared spaces again — the hum of conversation, the presence of others, the feeling of being part of something.
And often, we don’t realise how much we’ve needed it until we’re in it.
Why It Matters
There’s something powerful about gathering without distraction.
No phones. No divided attention.
Just people, together.
When we’re fully present, something shifts. Conversations deepen. We listen more. We feel less alone.
And that’s exactly why Laura and I co-founded The Digital Detox Club.

Our next Digital Detox Café is a chance to experience this for yourself.
📅 19th March
⏰ 6pm - 8pm
📍 The Den Cafe, BA2 3GJ
A cosy, screen-free evening where phones check into our Tech Motel and conversations go beyond small talk. Come solo or with a friend. Stay quiet or join in. There’s no pressure — just a warm, welcoming space to be.
As the world around us begins to open up again, consider this your invitation.
To step outside…To sit alongside others…To reconnect.
Because sometimes, as the seasons change…what we need most is each other.
Warmly, Nicola and Laura
